Mosaic courses in Amsterdam

Workshop (Saturday or Sunday 9:30 – 17:00)

This intensive one day workshop will teach you everything about the art of mosaic making in tiles and glass. The aim is to learn all the techniques, how to handle the tools correctly, to know how to make the shapes you want and which materials and surfaces are suitable for mosaics, how to make waterproof and frost resistant mosaics and much more… We work with small groups and the workshop is suitable for both beginners and intermediate mosaicists wanting to broaden their knowledge and refine their skills. The workshop is being held every weekend in either the Jordaan or in Nieuw Sloten.

Unique is the option to choose on the day itself whether you want to work with tiles or glass mosaics. It’s a balanced combination of theory and practice so that you are capable of making anything you like with mosaics when at home. Of course you will also make a mosaic that very day to put everything into practice, but what you learn is more important to me than that you’re piece is finished. Of course you will get a goody bag with all the materials needed to finish your artwork at home!

Evening Course (Thursday 19:30 – 22:00)

During this mosaic course of 5 evenings in 5 weeks you learn the same as in one day workshop, but the great advantage is that you have more hours of classes and therefore you will finish your piece of art in our studio. The last evening is reserved for the grouting. If you don’t mind homework, you could also choose to make something larger like a big bowl or table top. During this evening course you can also choose between tile mosaics and glass mosaics.

Included: 15 € worth of materials, coffee tea and a instruction booklet.

Mosaic Courses in Italy

Ravenna

During this 5 day course in the astounding ‘mosaic capital’ Ravenna you will learn how to work with smalti (classic Italian glass mosaic) and marble. Your teacher will be Luciana Notturni, one of the most renowned mosaic experts worldwide! Luciana and her English speaking staff will introduce you to the most important mosaic techniques (direct and indirect) in both theory and practice. I believe that this is the most comprehensive mosaic course for beginners and professionals available and it’s absolutely worth the trip to Ravenna.

You will make 2 mosaics (one copy of an ancient mosaic and one modern mosaic) having the choice of over 3000 colours and gold mosaics.

Included: all the materials, a guided tour along the famous mosaics of Ravenna and a slideshow about mosaic art history, both conducted by absolute experts.
